Manchester is an absolute party town. You will never have an excuse (apart from work, of course) not to go out! The relationship between us and other universities is good, and we all socialise at each other's unions, or in one of the city's many clubs.
The bad point about Manchester is that is seems forever dull...weather wise, I mean. Also, since the bombing a few years ago of the Arundel Shopping Centre, there is a distinct lack of a good shopping centre...though things are improving.
The Boddingtons brewery at Strangeways (yes, next door to the prison...how cruel!!) is an excellent place to go if you get the chance to tour it. On the topic of Boddingtons, never insult a Mancunion's love of the stuff...I did once and learned quickly!
Try to avoid areas like Moss Side, as you will likely get shot, stabbed and mugged! There is plenty to do in the centre and many of the pubs are excellent. Enjoy and good luck.
